Cole and I ended up making a last-minute trip to Michigan to watch my nephews wrestle at their state tournament, and I’m really glad we went.

On the way there, we stopped at an antique store (very on-brand for Cole). Of course he couldn’t leave empty-handed and ended up finding a mini Springfield, so that made his day

We got in Thursday night and headed straight to the tournament Friday morning. Carter was up first. He had a tough first match and lost. (I’ll fill in the rest later.) Even though he didn’t make it to day two, we were still really proud of him. It’s only his second year wrestling and his first time making it to state, which is a big deal.
After that, we checked into a hotel nearby with my family, my mom, sister, Cody, and all the kids. We swam (even though the pool was freezing), hung out, and then went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner.
Saturday was Adrian’s day, and he came ready to go. He went 3-0 and advanced to day two. On the way back to the hotel, we grabbed Jersey Mike’s (his choice), stopped at Barnes and Noble for a bit, then went back and swam again.
That night we kept it simple. Ordered pizza, played games with the kids, and ended the night with Cold Stone.
Sunday was finals, and Adrian wrestled really well again. He won his first two matches and made it to the championship. He came up just short, but still finished 2nd in the state. For his second year wrestling and second time at state, that’s huge.
On the way back to Iowa, I just needed a quick bathroom stop, and it happened to be right before the Brownell's exit. So naturally, Cole was more than happy to stop there too.

We were really proud of both of the boys. It was a quick trip, but still a good one. The hardest part about moving to Iowa was not being close to my family, but I am thankful for any time we get to go spend with them.
