The annual Shenandoah Shendig BBQ Competition brought the heat (literally), filling the air with the mouthwatering smell of smoked meats, good times, and plenty of friendly competition.

Friday night kicked off with Taster’s Choice, and wow, did the pitmasters bring their A-game. We tried it all: juicy chicken wings, creamy pasta, smoky pork chops, and even peach cobbler with homemade ice cream. Yes, it was as dreamy as it sounds. There was no shortage of flavor, and picking a favorite was nearly impossible.
Adding to the vibe was live music from Gas N Grass, a local favorite who never disappoints. We pulled up some chairs, grabbed some food, and enjoyed the show under the summer sky. There’s something about great music and good food that just feels different in a small-town setting.
One of the best parts of the night was that I got to bring my mom, who was visiting from Michigan. She really enjoyed it. From the cold drinks (Thanks Cole) to the yummy BBQ we were savoring every minute, it was the perfect way to show off a little Shenandoah charm.

And for anyone not full from all the competition bites, there were awesome food vendors serving up Mexican eats, Cajun dishes, and even cotton candy for the sweet tooths out there. Whether you were a BBQ fanatic or just along for the fun, there was something for everyone.

All in all, the Shendig is one of those events that makes you proud to be part of this community. Good food, great people, and memories that stick with you longer than the BBQ sauce on your fingers.
Can’t wait to go back next year!
